Two Hands Project – Hackerspace Documentary
by Squintz on Sep.30, 2009, under Events, Soup
The awsome guys from the Two Hands Projects unexpectedly dropped into Harford Hackerspace last night. The organizer, Bilal, was full of energy and really pumped everyone up. You’ll have to wait for the video to see what happened. Hopefully we will make the cut. In a nutshell they interviewed us and we showed off our space and our projects. Here are a few photos of them getting ready to record.

Meeting to start first project!
by Squintz on Jun.15, 2009, under Events, Meetings, Soup
![]()
This week on Thursday – June 18th, 2009 at 7:30pm we will be gathering at superfro’s garage which he has kindly offered to let us use as a temporary hackerspace. We will be working on our first project which is a CNC Machine capable of etching circuit boards and routing small objects from wood and soft metals. At this meeting we will be discussing the design of the CNC Machine as well as start setting up tools and gathering materials which the members will be donating from their personal stash.
In other news… Our bank account is now setup. Also, we would really like to see some new faces at our meetings. We currently have 6 members which come to every meeting. So, if you are in the area and you would like to come check out the club please e-mail us at info@harfordhackerspace.org for directions.
The Latest News
by Squintz on Jun.11, 2009, under Events, Infrastructure, Meetings, Soup
It has been a while since we posted an update but that’s because we have been busy. Here is the latest on the organization.
- We found a temporary place to start meeting weekly. It’s a large garage owned by one of our members. This will allow us to start working on projects and hopefully attract a few new members. We plan to start holding weekly meetings to work on our projects starting next week. Get in touch with us via IRC or the Forums if you would like to hang out with us.
- We have decided that our first project is going to be to build a CNC Machine capable of creating circuit boards. We are currently in the design phase and the design discussion can be tracked on our forums project board.
- [***FINALLY***] This is the most exciting news. We are now officially incorporated with the State of Maryland Department of Taxation as a non-stock corporation. You can look for your self at http://www.dat.state.md.us/ and searching for Harford Hackerspace. This means that we can setup a bank account and start collecting membership dues. Not being incorporated has been a big setback for us but we pushed through it and are ready to move full speed ahead.
RobotFest 2009, Thank You!
by Squintz on Apr.26, 2009, under Events, Soup
RobotFest was very cool! Our table got way more attention than we ever expected. I would like to send a special thanks to our members who helped make this event go smooth. Jason did an excellent job on the banner and business card design. Chris really impressed the audiance with his CNC Machine. Miles brought his battle bots and custom (not reprap) rapid prototyper. We would like to send a special thanks to the HacDC group for offering to take us under their wings and help us through all the tough parts of getting a organization like this started. We will surely be taking them up on their offer. Finally, thanks to Brian Dolge for loaning us his Drawdio and Brain Machine to display at our table.
Several of our guest were interested in our members personal sites. For links to those sites please visit http://wiki.harfordhackerspace.org and click on the Members link. Chis’s page is now up there and Mile’s page should be up very soon.
Check out some really bad pictures of us as we were doing our thing at RobotFest 2009.
Second Meeting Minutes Available
by Squintz on Apr.08, 2009, under Events, Meetings, Members
The meeting minutes for April 7th, 2009 are now on the wiki. Note that we are planning on attending RobotFest on April 25th, 2009 with our very own table. Let us know if you will be attending by leaving us a comment.
Also important to note in the minutes is that we have now selected the initial board members. Check the wiki for more details.
Next Meeting @ HacDC
by Squintz on Mar.12, 2009, under Events, Meetings
Brian Dolge, organizer of the Baltimore area RepRap group has invited us to join them at HacDC on: Saturday - March 21, 2009 between 12pm and 4pm
This would be a great opportunity for anyone interested in seeing how a hackerspace is operated to visit. Everyone who attends will have a chance to help finish building the RepRap which was started during the HacDC RepRap Build-A-Thon. Visit www.hacdc.org for more information and directions to HacDC.
FIRST Robotics Competition
by Squintz on Mar.02, 2009, under Events
I took the family to see the FIRST High School robotics competition at the Washington, DC Convention Center. My brother in-law held 2nd place throughout the competition with his 007 “Thunderbot” but was later eliminated in the alliance competition rounds. Check it out!
